|Abstract:||Peak flux and the rate of rise of solar X-ray flares numbering 2500 recorded by Solrad 9 (Explorer 37) daring the period January 1969-December 1971 in the band 1-8 A were examined in relation to their (i) duration and (ii) ratio of rise time/duration. Results obtained from the statistical analysis strongly suggest that X-ray flares can be broadly divided under three definite types: (i) impulsive, (ii) gradual rise and fall, and (iii) gradual rise and quick fall.|
