Abstract: Acoustic sounding is likely to be one of the potential techniques in the near future for studies of the lower atmosphere. Herein directional acoustic transducers are used for transmission and reception of acoustic waves. Various kinds {If such transducers like the square array, parabolic bowl and reflector horn, etc. are available in the literature. Some of these transducers have been assembled and studied for their directional characteristics, gain and sensitivity. It has been found that reflector horn and square array acoustic transducers are the systems which fulfill in pan the directional requirements of the acoustic antenna to be used for studies of the lower atmosphere.
