Title: Phase Integral Corrections to Radio Wave Absorption & Virtual Heights in Model Ionospheric Layers

Abstract: Approximate expressions for the phase integral corrections to absorption (A2x) and virtual heights (h2x) of radio waves reflected from model ionospheric layers for the extraordinary wave mode have been derived. The accuracy obtained using these formulae compares favorably with those obtained from similar formulae derived for the O-mode by J. E. Titheridge [Radio Sci., 2 (1967), 133] and M. R. Thorpe [J. atmos. terr. Phays., 33 (1971), 1597].The variations of the ratio of correction for the two modes (A20/A2x) and (h20//h2x) as a function of the geomagnetic dip angle, the radio frequency and the electron density distribution have been studied.
