Title: Microwave Absorption in the Martian Atmosphere

Abstract: Microwave absorption in the Martian atmosphere (in the frequency range 21-117 GHz) from 0 to 185 km, has been computed. The total absorption coefficient ϒ, absorption coefficient at peak resonance frequency ϒ0, and half-width of the absorption line Δv are calculated for all the important constituents of the Martian atmosphere. A comparison of the ϒ0and Δv values for the Martian and terrestrial atmospheres indicater that the ϒ0 values are greater for Martian atmosphere, while reverse is true for Δv values.
