Title: LHR Effect on QT Mode Whistlers

Abstract: Employing a realistic electron-ion density and collision frequency model of the ionosphere, attenuation of riser whistler waves at different altitudes and wave normal angles is calculated. The results show that the attenuation is very high for the waves of frequency 7 kHz as a result of transverse propagation near the lower hybrid resonance (LHR) frequency. This explains satisfactorily the constant upper cut-off' frequency as observed in the riser whistler sonograms.
