Title: Daytime Horizontal Drifts in the E-region of the Ionosphere over Udaipur (India)

Abstract: E-region horizontal drift observed at Udaipur (geomag. lat. 14·5°N) under different conditions during the period 1971-74 is reported. Hourly variation of most probable drift direction shows that in summer, in morning hours, the drift direction changes from south-east to east and in afternoon hours, it changes towards south-west through south. In equinoxes, the variation of drift direction traces almost a complete cycle of sine wave in daytime. However, in winter, drift direction remains almost south-west. The hourly variation of drift speed in winter shows higher speed in the morning hours, while in other seasons this type of change in the drift speed is not observed. Histograms showing the seasonal variation of drift speed are also presented. The polar diagrams of drift direction for all the three seasons show that during daytime, the percentage occurrence of drift direction towards north is least.
