Title: Ionospheric E-region Drift Measurements at Tiruchirapalli

Abstract: Results of the daytime E-region drift measurements at Tiruchirapalli (dip lat.4•8°N) during the period 1972-75 show predominantly westward direction with mean apparent drift speed of about 100 m/sec. Daily variations of the drift speed show a maximum in the morning at about 0900 hrs; this maximum occurs a little later during summer months. Drift speeds are maximum during equinoxes and minimum during summer. Comparison with earlier results at Thumba shows close similarity between the drifts at the two places with speed at Tiruchirapalli being a little lower than, that observed at Thumba. The latitudinal belt of the abnormal zone near the magnetic equator in India is at least up to north of Tiruchirapalli.
