Title: Simultaneous Investigation of Ionospheric E-region Irregularities at Two Low-latitude Stations by Spaced Receiver Technique

Abstract: Simultaneous; measurements of the ionospheric E-region drift were carried out by closely-spaced receiver technique (D1 method) at Ahmedabad (geogr. lat. 23 ON; geogr. long. 72'6 °E) and at Udaipur (geogr. lat. 24'0 ᵒN; geogr. long. 73'7 GEl with almost similar sets of equipments operating at a radio frequency of 2'45 MHz during 1973-74. The records obtained at both the stations were analyzed at one place by identical methods. The results derived from common data available at both the places are reported. The results at these two stations separated by 200 km show very good similarity both on the average statistical basis as well as on the individual days. On occasions, sudden changes occur in the drift velocity almost at the same time at the two places suggesting the presence of large scale atmospheric circulation pattern in the E-region of the of ionosphere, High degree of correlation in the data on individual days gives strong confidence in the application of spaced receiver technique at these latitudes. Large scatter of drift direction at a tropical latitude station is suggested due to genuine variation in the ionosphere rather than in the method of ionospheric drift measurement.
