| Abstract: | Excitation of O11304 Å line by electron bombardment in the aurora has been discussed, It is shown that the dissociative excitation of O2 by electrons. viz, e + O2 -> e + O + Oᵒ, is very small compared to the direct excitation of oxygen atoms, namely, e + O -> e+O*. Effect of magnetic disturbances on the luminosity profile of the line by direct excitation of oxygen atoms has also been considered. |
