Title: Atmospheric Emission Measurements for Rain Attenuation Using Microwave Radiometer at 11 GHz

Abstract: Attenuation measurements in the emission mode using an 11 GHz microwave radiometer designed and fabricated at the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, are presented. Any change in the weather conditions is determined as an enhancement of the antenna temperature. The measurements involve simultaneous observation by radiometer and the rapid response raingauge. The values of attenuation and rain rate show a good agreement with the values reported by radiometer observations at Slough, England, and elsewhere in Europe. The average attenuation is found to be around 1 dB for rainfall rate of 10mm/hr.
