Title: Optical Emissions on the Nightside Ionosphere of Venus

Abstract: One of the several mechanisms proposed for the nightside ionization of the ionosphere of Venus is the precipitation of low energy electron fluxes. Assuming such a possibility we calculate the volume excitation rates and ionization rates as a result of electron precipitation using the generalized spatial yield spectrum approach. It is found that several bands of CO2, N2 and O(1D)are prominently excited by low energy electron precipitation. These can serve as diagnostic tools for identifying low energy electrons in the nightside ionosphere of Venus.
