Abstract: The computed mean nocturnal vertical drifts using phase path measurements on 5.6 MHz at Waltair (dip., 20°N), a low latitude station, have shown some seasonal variations. There is a post-sunset reversal and also a pre-midnight downward-to upward reversal followed by an upward-to-downward reversal around midnight for all the seasons. It is observed that there are marked variations in the values of vertical drifts and their reversal timings from season to season. An attempt is made to interpret the observed variations in vertical drifts on the basis of E x B drifts and neutral wind effects on the nocturnal F-region ionization.
