Title: Lunar Influence on TEC of the Ionosphere at Waltair

Abstract: The total electron content (TEC) data obtained at Waltair (lat., 17.7ᵒN; long., 83.3ᵒE) during the period Oct. 1980-Feb. 1982 were used to study the lunar daily variations in TEC of the ionosphere up to the fourth harmonic component. The results show that the amplitudes of all the four harmonic components are significant at 5% level and the TEC exhibits a significant lunar semi-diurnal variation with a maximum at around 1100 hrs LT, which are in accordance with the concept of additional fountain effect of ionization due to lunar induced electric fields at the earth's equator.
