dc.description.abstractA brief analysis on the airglow as an indicator of the ionospheric processes is made. Ionospheric-magnetospheric interaction and interrelation between neutral and ionizing components are examine. The main morphological results and some specific regions- equatorial, midlatitudinal trough, SAR arcs, polar oval, etc. are shown. Models of local distribution of airglow sources and their application for the intercomparison of the International Reference Ionosphere and the models of the Neutral Upper Atmosphere are suggested. Some methods of rational combination between satellite and ground-based airglow measurements with other radiophysical method for ionospheric research are considered.en_US
