The progress in the concepts on the F-region morphology is reviewed for a 50 year period. The new knowledge on the altitudinal, longitudinal and latitudinal variation of electron and ion density and temperature and their temporal diurnal, seasonal, solar cycle and other specific change is discussed. The theoretical concepts on the F-region and the patterns of combined investigation are considered. Some applications of fundamental results are shown.en_US
