Title: Measurement of Doppler Frequency Shift of VHF Radar Echoes from Meteor Trails

Abstract: A procedure for computing the Doppler frequency shift of the 54.95 MHz carrier under the meteor radar echo envelope of pulse width 280 μs is described. The special requirement of the procedure is to compute the Doppler shift which is in the range - 30Hz to + 30Hz from sampled values of the Doppler frequency waveform at intervals of 1/300s for a duration typical of 50-200 ms. The procedure developed has been evaluated using simulated data, typical of the data from the meteor trail radar for different signal-to-noise ratio conditions. It is shown that the procedure can give an accuracy of ±1 Hz tor meteor echoes lasting more than 30 ms and for Doppler frequency shift in the range + 30Hz to - 30Hz. The results of analysis of the actual data obtained from meteor trail radar operating in SPL, VSSC, are-also presented.
