Abstract: The paper reviews the properties of large ( > 300 m),medium (15-300 m)and small (1-15 m) irregularities produced by the cross-field instability mechanism in the equatorial E-region. These studies were mainly carried out with rocket-borne Langmuir probes, resonance probes, proton precession magnetometers and electric field probes flown from an equatorial station Thumha (8ᵒ31'N. 76ᵒ52'E; dip 0ᵒ47'S). Results on the regions of occurrence, shapes. Amplitudes, spectrum. Direction of propagation, ere. of the irregularities are described.
