Abstract: Results of radiometric measurements of soil moisture content over bare soil obtained with a horizontally polarized microwave radiometer at 1.55 GHz frequency are presented. Radiometric measurements were made with incidence angle varying from 25° to 45°. Ground truth acquisition of soil temperature and moisture content for five layers down to 20-cm depth was made concurrently along with radiometric measurements. The observed brightness temperatures are found to compare favourably with those calculated from Burke's radiative transfer model [Burke W J, Schmugge T & Paris J F, J Geophys Res (USA), 84 (1979) 287].
