Abstract: The parameter, 2 B/ S2, which conveys information about the longitudinal invariant as well as the bounce of frequency of the equatorially mirroring particles, has been evaluated on the magnetic equatorial surface using realistic magnetospheric magnetic field models for different ranges of magnetic activity. The contours obtained are compared with a dipole. With increase in magnetic activity the contours are compressed on the day side and stretched on the nightside of the magnetosphere. The maximum non-dipolar effects are found to be produced in the midnight sector.
