Abstract: The radiation efficiency of linear antennas and microstrip antennas on dielectric substrates mounted on space shuttles has reportedly been adversely affected in plasma medium of the upper atmosphere. The present analysis reveals significant improvement in the radiation efficiency of the microstrip antenna in a similar medium by building it on a ferrite substrate. Computation of the radiation efficiency of the ferrite-based microstrip antenna against plasma frequency shows multiresonant peaks even when plasma frequency is less than the source frequency which is a very desirable feature in the matter of solution to blackout phenomenon and which, hitherto, has not been made possible.
