Abstract: A coherent Doppler, VHF radar specifically designed for scientific studies of atmospheric dynamics and diffusion around the mesopause region using ionized meteor trails is described. The state-of-the-art radar has evolved after various considerations to meet the specific requirements of studying the temporal and altitude (80 to 100 km) variations of winds over Trivandrum. The system design is presented in detail along with the evaluation of the data acquired using the radar.
