Abstract: A model study of lower ionospheric composition during solar flare events on 4, 6 and 7 Feb. 1986 is made using a simplified and a detailed ion chemical scheme. Results show an enhancement in the electron density at 80 km by a factor of 5 or less than about 10 for moderate and strong flares, respectively. A decrease in the cut-off level of cluster ions and that in effective recombination coefficient are also noticed under flare conditions. A comparison between computed and observed absorption at 2.132 MHz measured at Delhi is also made.
