Title: Statistical characterization of X-band line-of-sight multipath fading and its associated vertical drift velocity

Abstract: Some useful regression relationships have been worked out for one of the hops (Chapraula-Sikandarabad) of Delhi-Sikandarabad 11 GHz microwave line-of-sight link based on multipath observations spread over two successive years. Simple relationships for fade occurrence probability (P), number of fades (N), average fade duration (t) and the ‘time below level’ (T) have been given. In addition, an important meteorological parameter, namely, the average vertical drift velocity has been worked out for various Fresnel zone heights and fade depths from the number of fades and average fade duration data based on a method suggested by Bullington [Bell Syst Tech J (USA), 50 (1971) 2039].
