Abstract: Acoustic remote sensing of the prevailing winds I the boundary layer finds an important applications in studying the problems related to air pollution meteorology. Analysis of the seasonal variation of vertical and horizontal wind speed with altitude is made using the Doppler sodar data collected at an atomic research centre, Kalpakkam. A pictorial representation of horizontal wind flow for each season is given in the form of wind roses at three lower levels of probing, namely 100, 300 and 500 m. Such analysis would prove to be basic reference material for taking necessary meaningful emergency measures in similar climatic regions.
