Abstract: With a view to investigating the influence of thunderstorms on the atmospheric radio noise field strength (ARNFS) over Kalyani (West Bengal), our round the clock recorded data of atmosphere at 27 kHz have been analyze for a 2-year period, January 1994 – December 1995. An analysis of the regular behaviour of ARNFS exhibits that the median noise level decreases during the winter and is maximum during the monsoon months. Comparison seasonal occurrences of thunderstorm days with ARNFS indicated that both of them have similar trends. However, AFNFS is more pronounced during daytime. The results are interpreted by considering the source activity and the propagation involved.
