Abstract: The peeling force required to separate out the filaments has been evaluated to measure the cohesion of silk yarn. Such force has been correlated well with the values obtained on conventionally used Duplan cohesion tester. The results show that the mulberry yarns are more cohesive than tussah yarns. The effect of sericin content on cohesion has also been investigated. Higher percentage of residual sericin imparts more peeling force. Even at low level of sericin content, the peeling force determined on Instron can be able to detect the change in cohesion values.
