Abstract: Palm seed fibre was extracted from the fruit and its characteristics were studied. The fibre is characterized by high extension at break not generally found in vegetable fibres. Its appearance and properties, particularly the spiral angle, are similar to those of coir fibre. The fibre is fine and large lumens give it a low bulk density. The fibre consists of lignocellulose with a high percentage of pentosan. Spinning trials in combination with jute showed satisfactory performance of blend containing 25% palm seed fibre.
