Title: An Assessment of Diffusion Models in a Wool-Dye System

Abstract: An attempt has been made to understand quantitatively the mechanism of dye diffusion in a wool-acid dye system. Five different Indian wools belonging to normal white and canary coloured varieties have been studied for the purpose. Equations generally used for determining the rate of dyeing and diffusion coefficients have been tested and diffusion models assessed practically. Though Hills' equation and Peters' model are the solution of Fick's second law of diffusion, the latter seems to hold good for moderate and larger periods of dyeing as well.
