Abstract: A method has been worked out to measure per cent volume of medulla and density of single medullated wool fibres. These two parameters are inversely related and the shape of fibre cross-section influences the estimation of these two parameters. The true per cent volume of medulla IS much smaller than the value calculated from Lanameter measurement of fibre dimensions. In kempy fibres the estimated volume of medulla is less than 55% of the total fibre volume.
