Abstract: | The effect of pre-heat-setting, at different temperatures and durations, of polyester fabrics dyed with a disperse dye (Dispersol Red B-3B) on dye uptake. dye penetration and the final colour of the fabric was studied. Variation in dye uptake was due to the variation in tension developed during heat-setting and structural changes. Colour measurement was found useful for predicting the optimum temperature duration of heat treatment and limits of variation tolerable for heat-setting a particular fabric with a particular dye. A new method is suggested for predicting the dye uptake from Δ E (total colour difference from the standard white). |
