Abstract: Stress-strain curves for sunhemp fibres were derived from the load elongation values, measured at different speeds of testing. The effect of gauge length on ultimate tensile strength (UTS) was studied by testing fibres of different lengths. In the sunhemp fibre, with increase in the speed of testing, from 0.005 to 0.2 m/min, UTS increased from 180 to 301 MN/m2. The fracture behaviour was observed on an SEM, UTS of the fibre decreased linearly with increase in gauge length.
