Abstract: The dyeing behaviour of poly (ethylene terephthalate-hexamethylene terephthalate) fibres was studied with three different disperse dyes, namely C.I. Disperse Yellow-3, C.I. Disperse Brown and C.I. Disperse Red-17. The effects of chemical structure of polymers, draw ratio of fibre and temperature of dyeing on dye uptake were investigated. An increase in the hexamethylene content in polyethylene terephthalate backbone increased the dye uptake. The equilibrium dye uptake was also correlated with the glass transition temperature (Tg), % crystallinity and density.
