Abstract: The diffusion coefficients of two direct dyes into cotton fabric have been determined experimentally from the rate of dyeing curves under the influence of kinetic variables. The apparent increase in the diffusion coefficients on application of ultrasonic field is ascribed to cavitation. Diffusion coefficients vary with the intensity of waves. SEM studies and breaking strength tests revealed that fabrics insonated for experimental dyeing time remain largely intact.
