Abstract: A modified crosslinking agent based on the condensation product of melamine, paraformaldehyde and polyethylene glycol 200 is recommended for wash and wear finishing of cotton. The better performance of the synthesized product compared to commercial melamine formaldehyde resin has been attributed to the crosslinking in swollen state of the cotton fabric and possibility of longer crosslinks formation. The advantages of the synthesized product over commercial melamine formaldehyde resin are highlighted.
