Abstract: The design and fabrication of a novel mechanism for stretching synthetic filament yarn is described. Unlike in the conventional process the filament is constrained to follow a path leading over a pair of cones rotating at identical radial velocity and having finite steps of increasing radii machined over their tapering surfaces. The process does away with impulsive stretching and lays emphasis on the gradual alignment of the macromolecular chains along the filament axis.
