Abstract: A study on purely diffusive moisture transport through fabrics has been carried out under dynamic conditions to evaluate the clothing comfort of apparels. The time taken to reach a certain mean RH by the dry chamber, on passing moisture through fabrics of different constructions and fibre types, has been measured. It has been found that the amount of moisture removed by a fabric from a humid environment, rather than the quickness of moisture transfer, determines its suitability to wear comfort. The dependence of moisture transfer time on fahric parameters has been analyzed based on the general laws of diffusive transfer and it has been observed that cotton fabrics are more comfortable as compared to polyester or cotton-polyester fabrics. This is essentially due to the higher rate of moisture removal from a high humidity environment by cotton fabrics when moisture is allowed to diffuse through them.
