Abstract: The effect of softening treatment by the fungus, Penicillium corylophilum Dierckx on the chemical and physical nature of the barky jute has been discussed. A considerable amount of non-fibrous impurities in barky jute has been found to be diminished, resulting in improvement of fibre quality.
