Abstract: The effect of ethylenediamine (EDA) on the physico-chemical properties of jute fibre such as weight loss, swelling, density, moisture absorption and tensile properties has been studied. Changes in the fine structure of jute have been assessed from X-ray and IR studies. Changes in the fine structure after multiple swelling treatment with EDA have also been discussed. Because of the presence of lignin in jute the changes in the fine structure of jute are less pronounced than that in cotton.
