Abstract: The fluorescence and reflectance of Magra, Marwari and Nali wool bundles were studied at 45° using a photovolt multiplier fluorescence meter (model 540, New York). Fluorescence was measured by exciting the wool at 365, 405 and 436 nm with the help of suitable primary filters. The emissions were recorded using secondary filters for 450, 470 and 510 nm. Nali scored higher values for the first fluorescence at the lowest excitation wavelength. Magra and Marwari showed higher values for the two fluorescences recorded at higher wavelengths. Statistical analysis indicated that the three breeds differed significantly among themselves in the first and third fluorescence. In Magra and Nali, the transmittance values increased with the wool weight. Reflectance was recorded by removing both the primary and secondary filters and allowing the entire spectra of the source fall on the samples. Magra and Marwari wools did not differ among themselves but scored higher transmittance values than Nali.
