Abstract: 3-Dicyanomethyleneindan-1-one (II), prepared by the condensation of indan-1,3-dione (I) with malononitrile, was coupled with three representative 4-substituted phenyldiazonium salts (III) to give 2-arylazo-3-dicyanomethyleneindan-1-ones (lVa-c). These compounds when applied on polyester fibres gave bright yellow to orange shades with excellent pick-up, moderate light fastness and very good sublimation fastness.
