Abstract: A device for measuring the change in the diameter of cords subjected to controlled stretch is described and the effects of longitudinal extension on the cross-sectional geometry and diameter of polyester and Kevlar cords are discussed. The diameter reduction with increase in extension is very low at first and then increases rapidly for polyester cords, whereas it is rapid at the beginning and then increases gradually for Kevlar cords.
