| Abstract: | A field experiment was conducted during the rabi seasons of 2003-04 and 2004-05 at research farm of KVK Rampur of
SVBPUAT, Meerut, to study the response of lentil (Lens culinaris) cultivars to sulphur levels in north Indian plains. Study
revealed that lentil cuItivar PL-406 gave significantly maximum grain yield (17.96q/ha) on mean basis in comparison to other
cultivars. The highest net income, Rs. 16496/ha and benefit: cost ratio, 2:13 was also recorded in the same variety followed by
PL-4. Yield and yield attributes of lentil, protein content in grain, total production and net income increased significantly with
increasing levels of suphur up to 40kg/ha. It is concluded that lentil cultivar PL-406 is most suitable variety for this region
and there is deficiency of sulphur in the soils of this region, hence it is necessary to apply sulphur in these soils to obtain
optimum crop growth and yield of lentil crop. |
