Abstract: The safety running of the online electric power cable is extremely important for industrial production and daily life. The method is needed to classify the online cable state as the normal state or the incipient fault state to ensure the safety running. In this paper, the 3-phase voltages and the 3-phase currents of the online electric power cable are taken to extract the entropy feature vectors, and the scatter ratio Fisher (SRF) formula is derived to implement the dimension reduction and optimize simultaneously the feature vector separability between the two states. Furthermore, the power cable state inspection algorithm (PCSIA) is developed based on the SRF formula to classify the online cable state and find out the incipient defects. Compared with the traditional Fisher mapping, SRF formula could increase the data precision by 5.2193% after the projection. Meanwhile, compared with the traditional Fisher recognition, PCSIA is experimentally proved to decrease the error percentage from 33.33% to 0 for the state recognition of online power cable.
