Abstract: A model is presented for the steady state simulation of multi-pass heat exchanger networks. The heat recovery equations needed for the direct solution of multi-pass networks are derived. The versatility of the suggested approach for handling industrial networks is demonstrated through a case study. The usefulness of the approach to study the response of practical networks for increased throughput rates is highlighted by applying it to desulphurization section of an existing ammonia plant.
