Abstract: The catalytic dehydrogenation of cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone is an industrially important reaction. The catalysts La2CuO4 and strontium substituted lanthanum copper oxide Sr0.2 La1.8 CuO3.9 have been evaluated for their catalytic activities. They found to yield cyclohexanone in the temperature range of 573-613K beyond which dehydration is favoured. The results obtained by the flow reactor technique were fitted in different models (Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism) to find out the rate determining step using a non-linear least square fitting computer programme. The most suitable model was found to be a Langmuir Hinshelwood model, involving surface reaction-dual site with negligible adsorption of cyclohexanone and hydrogen.
