Title: Synthesis, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal activity of sydnone-based aromatic compounds

Abstract: In order to investigate the biological importance of sydnone ring system, two new series viz. 4-(N-(4-(3-(substitutedphenyl)acryloyl) phenyl) sulfamoyl)-3-p-tolyl-sydnone (Series-A) and 4-(N-(4-(5-(substitutedphenyl)isoxazol-3-yl)phenyl)4-sulfamoyl)-3-p-tolyl-sydnone (Series-B) have been synthesized. They have been characterized by FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR and elemental analysis. The final compounds have been screened for their antibacterial activity against S. aureus and S. pyogenes from a Gram positive group of bacteria and E.coli and P. aeruginosa from a Gram negative group of bacteria and antifungal activity against C. albicans, A. niger and A. clavatus. The compound YA9 shows excellent activity against all tested strains of bacteria, while compound YB6 exhibits good activity against Gram positive bacteria S. aureus and YB7 displays good activity against both Gram negative bacteria E.coli and P. aeruginosa.
