Abstract: Recently the discipline of finite-time thermodynamics has been used for analyzing the working of engines/refrigerators by incorporating more and more realistic factors. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to improve upon the usual assumption of instantaneous adiabats by modeling the piston's speed equal to the speed of sound in the working fluid.
