Abstract: Various bench tests to assess cohesion are described. Several bench tests were performed to evaluate the significance of cohesion effects in determining a powder's suitability for pneumatic conveying. To assess the effect of cohesion, arch length was evaluated in a purpose built tester. The effect of deaeration, bed height, particle size and ambient relative humidity on the arch length was also observed. In regard to bench test development, various powder properties were evaluated. The cohesion properties so measured are then correlated with reported pneumatic conveying powder flow behaviour.
