Abstract: This paper compares the results obtained by existing turbulent lubrication theories with experimental data and presents a steady state analysis of self-acting plain cylindrical journal bearings in turbulent regime following Constantinescu's turbulent lubrication theory. The effects of turbulence, eccentricity ratio and slenderness ratio on the load carrying capacity and friction coefficient have been investigated. The results are presented in the form of graphs which may be useful for the design of such bearings.
