Title: Declining and constant rate counter-current operated horizontal filters

Abstract: A laboratory study on horizontal counter-current operated filters under constant and declining filtration rate conditions has been conducted. This study reveals that such filters can successfully (without significant deterioration in the effluent quality) take up higher turbidity inputs, increased filtration rates and provide longer filter run times due to nearly uniform deposition of impurities along the entire filter depth. An empirical relation involving the several operative variables in respect of the counter-current operated filters has also been proposed. The proposed empirical relation is of ample use in the design of the filter operative variables and to the field engineers.
